Bring Your Own Device – BYOD

Your child may bring an approved electronic device such as these to school and use it for educational purposes. Educational purposes include, but are not limited to, classroom activities, communication with experts in connection to a class project, collaboration with classmates in class and at home with Google Docs, or research for class projects. As with other personally owned items, the school and district are not liable for the loss, damage, misuse, or theft of personally owned devices brought to school.

The following chart is provided as a guide toward what types of devices you might consider sending to school with your child for our optional BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) program. In no way is this meant to be a complete list; many devices other than these will also work.

Please know that students are never required to bring a device to school. All students will still be able to access and utilize school equipment. Students may use the share-a–screen approach where students share one device between a pair or group of students for collaboration. No student will miss instruction because he or she does not have a device. To help ensure appropriate use of devices, personally owned devices used in school will only be allowed to connect to the internet via the school’s filtered wireless network, provided and monitored by the Madison Elementary School District.
